Great for keeping in the kitchen to sharpen your knives.
Although I do like to think of myself as a jungle craft experienced John Rambo. I bought this to sharpen my kitchen knives.I am the Rambo of the Parlour. In use it works very well. You have 2 different sharpeners. The carbide one, labelled “1” and the ceramic one, labelled “2”.The carbide one is the one I use the most, it really sharpens the blade.Don’t have the sharpener upright when you use it. Tilt it away from you about 20 degrees, then pull the blade straight through. You will really feel, and hear the cutting action. 1 or 2 pulls through is all it takes to tone up a knife. (if it’s very blunt then you will need to repeat the process). You can then do the same on the ceramic slot, if you wish to finely hone the blade, but with general kitchen knives, I don’t really find that necessary. There is an arrow on the top, telling you which way to pull the knife. In use I’ve found that you can hold the sharpener either way round, the cutting action is pretty much the same in both directions. Great for us left handers. You can of course also do it the other way around. Have the blade facing upwards and run the sharpener along the blade. You probably have more chance of cutting yourself doing it this way, but try them both. See which you prefer. As it is a survival tool it does have some other features.A whistle, that is very loud, although you must give it a good hard blow.Perfect for announcing dinner is ready. It also has a sparking rod for starting fires. It does arrive covered in a black coating, which you will need to remove by pulling it through the carbide slot before it will work.It does work though, you need to give it a good hard pull at an angle, but do it right and you’re met with a shower of sparks. You do need to pull it through a few times, I’m guessing that the rod oxidises and you have to scrape this layer off.I’ll admit, it’s not that useful in the kitchen, but who knows, come the zombie apocalypse….It also has a carbide encrusted rod for sharpening serrated edges. That’s actually quite useful as it’s great for sharpening up a bread knife.Overall, I think this is a great buy, even if like me you only buy it for your kitchen knives. It works very well and it’s nice and compact.I hope you found this review helpful.

Brilliant little gadget
I bought this for my husband as a little birthday extra. Itâs sharpened all our blunt knives brilliantly and is easy portable. Itâs a great gadget to take around with you whenever needed. He thinks itâs brilliant, job done ! âºï¸

Very good knife sharpener
We have a few knife sharpeners and this one by far is the best but also the cheapest! I would definitely recommend this for everyday knives, however would not use this on any expensive knives as it sharpens a little bit too well and takes off quite a lot of the metal. There are three different sharpeners and I tend to use the carbide one first and then the ceramic one to fine-tune the sharpening. Lastly, the carbide encrusted rod for sharpening serrated edges works well too but to be honest is a lot of hassle but I probably will end up using it for for our bread knife at some point! It works well if you tilt it away from yourself and then pull the knife blade through. You will feel and hear the sharpening action and see the metal sharpenings, hence why you should only use on everyday cheaper knives.I even took it on a recent holiday just for fun and used the whistle which is functional and loud. The sparking rod for starting fires is surprisingly easy to use and I managed to produce sparks immediately without any prior experience which was actually quite a lot of fun!Overall highly recommend this for something that has a very small footprints but extremely functional and practical at a very good price point!

whats not to like
small, compact and all the tools work. I am used to tools that just about do their job, fall way short of advert boasts or simply fail. i tried putting this to the test, heres the results, Whistle is as loud as need be. feros rod took 4 strokes to remove coating then even lightish strokes got sparks.,2 knife sharpeners worked wel , the knack is to NOT put pressure on knife, just use its own weight. the hook sharpeners were tested on blunted sewing needles. somewhat tricky at first and not the intended object, but sharpened. neds a lanyard or attaching to a carrabina. well worth what i paid

Great little portable sharpener
Have had one of these before until I had misplaced it. Handy little tool to have on you while out in the field. I currently stalk for deer and when the opportunity presents itself the animal is required to be managed in the field, often resulting in a blunt knife half way through if you do not sharpen it often enough. This little sharpener has pulled me out of a few situations like this.It easily fits in your pocket and gives the option for putting an edge back on your blade and refining it. Luckily enough I have not had to use the flint function too often but it works as stated. The file is also a useful tool to sharpen your blade or fishing hook when you are out and about. One disadvantage would be the whistle. I wouldnât rely solely on this in an emergency situation as it is not that loud or consistent. In summary this would be a great purchase that will pull a few hunters or even home chefs if your blade lets you down. Not a rip off price either.

Good bit of kit
2 different sharpening tools for straight knives, both put a good, sharp edge on, the tool for sharpening serrated edges works well and you get great sparks from the flint. oh and the whistle is quite loud

Sharpal portable sharpeners.
This is very handy if you don’t know how to use the Sgapal twin carbide sided tool to sharpen a very dull blade. As this is more for keeping a sharp edge on a knife. Saying that however. As it doesn’t take any space at all. I’d really recommend it for camping or hiking. As if you needed them. This has a whistle and a fire starting stick. Should things go bad and you need them. I got both tools. As the carbide double edged tip tool will sharpen the very dullest of any kind of blade. Rven a lawnmower or axe.

I chose this sharpener for its versatility, compact size and reasonable price. I successfully used this product to sharpen two hand pruners and a larger loping shears with ease and great results. I took the first hand pruner apart, mostly to clean it well before sharpening, so it was easy to run the bIade through the sharpener. To my surprise, I was able to sharpen the second hand pruner easily without taking it apart; same with the big loppers. I had a much easier time pruning the azaleas and other shrubs in the yard this weekend. This product is compact, portable, easy to use, and does a fine job sharpening my tools. Next I will use them on my scissors to see how that works. Highly Recommended.

The kit of tools that are bundled together are perfect for the outdoorsperson, at a glance. However, not all of the tools are of equal quality. Let me review each one, starting with the best (in my opinion):BLADE SHARPENINGThese are FANTASTIC, and are the best elements to this pocket tool. The coarse sharpener really cuts, and it is easy to set a new edge to any non-serrated blade. Very little pressure is required to bring an edge back to life, and this tool actually takes quite a bit of material off, so be careful. The fine ceramic honing tool is amazing at revitalizing edges without taking much material off, and this will probably be your go-to sharpener.SERRATED SHARPENINGIt’s a quirky little rod with a rough surface and acts like a sharpener for most sizes of serrations, but quite a bit of skill is required to get the angle right. You must practice patience and a steady hand to prevent scratching surfaces (like matte powder coatings). I have not been able to successfully sharpen any serrations to the degree of my liking, but will continue to practice.About the diamond rod itself… The hinge mechanism is not the most sturdy thing, and the first time I used it, I pinched a piece of my finger right off so be careful how you open it. As well, the rough surface of the rod tip actually removes material from the plastic casing (it “pinches” the rod in the closed position) and so I feel that, over time, the rod will fail to remain closed.LANYARD HOLESimple and wide enough for shoelace/paracord applications. Located in a good corner of the tool. Keeps this thing from forgetting its address.FERROCERIUM RODIt is short and quite thin, but it strikes well (after you remove quite a bit of the black paint). The main issue I have with this feature is that it does not sit snugly into the tool itself. The only thing preventing this ferro rod from getting lost is a TINY little notch that is etched into the cheap plastic orange knob. You’re gonna want to secure this to the tool with a bit of black electrical tape or something.FISH HOOK SHARPENING GROOVEHonestly have not needed to use this, nor will I likely ever use this – sorry!WHISTLEIt sucks. If you’ve got enough breath to blow into this and activate it, you can scream louder. Stuff some cotton into the whistle hole for emergency tinder, I guess.EDIT:I came back to give this product 5 stars because I just returned from a multi-day hike and this tool was instrumental to the success of my trip. Deducting 1 star for the whistle was not fair to this product – it is overall a very good item.
