    A great product
I’m a military vet and experienced outdoorsperson. This is the 5th Light My Fire ferro rod I’ve owned and this isn’t because they don’t last or they easily break – they’re a robust bit of essential kit – Just that a few times someone in the group I’ve been with has turned up with a much cheaper and less capable ferro rod and then used mine and gone ‘wow – that was easy’ so I’ve let them hold onto it to keep their passion for the outdoors motivated. They produce masses of great sparks right from the first strike compared with most of the cheaper brands I’ve tried. The striker has a great edge to it, is comfortable to hold, securely attached and comes with an included signalling whistle which in itself is a much underrated survival tool that often gets overlooked or forgotten when putting kit together. A whistle will stand out way further than your voice will carry by shouting. All in all this is a great bit of kit and I highly recommend it. Do note that it comes in several varieties e.g. the scout is rated for less strikes (total strikes, not sparks per strike), whereas the model I usually go for is the Army one with a fatter ferro rod and therefore a longer expected lifespan.

    Twisted fire starter
Great fero rod had a couple of these now, a really good spark easy to use. Material is just right not too soft or hard. Perfect for beginners or more practised outdoors people

  3. Oddsox

Reliable flint and steel with larger diameter ferro rod
I robust flint and steel that has thicker material than most rods for continued use. Once you’re through the protective surface coating creating sparks for fire lighting is straight forward. Generally I use this over a lighter to save on fuel and far more reliable than piezo ignition. If you use flint and steel a lot then this military (thicker) flint is ideal. If it’s just a backup you can save money and weight and purchase the standard sized variant.

    Good product
Works as it should happy with it

    Great but if kit
Spark this gives is great, wasn’t expecting it to be so good, the round parts are actually plastic which I was expecting to be metal or stone, however this is that good that it didn’t bother me, very handy to keep on me, it’s small but not tiny or as small as it looks in pics so takes abit of pocket space and doesn’t go on your keys or anything but all in all I am very pleased and pleasantly surprised, would make a great gift too for someone who camps or hikes or emergencies or generally likes gadgets ect

    Great
Great for wild camping lights stove first time

  7. RichTea

    Hugely useful and totally reliable
As a bushcraft instructor, I am very familiar with a wide range of fire lighting techniques. This firesteel is great, throwing out a really useful shower of hot sparks using the attached, extremely good striker. The alloy is quite soft, so it may not last as long as other firesteels, but that’s not a huge problem. It is in my e.d.c. kit now and, with the orange handle, I am unlikely to lose it on the woodland floor. Great stuff.

So genuinely good I immediately ordered a second
I had a cheapo rod that was good enough that it worked. Bought this impulsively going on the you get what you pay for basis. My god you do. The sparks and ease of this versus standard rods are second to none. You won’t be disappointed. Much easier for little hands as well. Trying to teach beavers fire building and this made it a real breeze with lots of happy successful faces. Well done!Top brand. Top product. Highly recommended. Thank you!

Comme tout les produits Light My Fire c’est bien fait et sa va très bien.

With high expectation we purchased two of these. On one we cleaned the ferro rod removing the outer black coating. With each strike it did produce many sparks, thus ready for our tests. Beginning simple using tissue paper stripped to smaller pieces creating a birdsnest configuration, we attempted to light it with Light My Fire. With the tool on the tissue paper or barely above it, it put out many sparks, however none of the sparks could light tissue paper.Next test we used toilet paper (TP) ripping it to shreds making a birdsnest bundle. Again Light My Fire would make many sparks, but not catch the TP on fire. For another test we used regular kitchen paper towel. Ripping it to pieces creating a birdsnest, same-same, many sparks without them lighting the papers. We tried regular ole newspaper, same results or lack there of. We were very confused. Yes scrapping ferro rod clearly produces sparks, but not fire on what should be easily flamable paper products.Final test was with a cotton balls. Pulling apart the cotton balls created more surface area and small fibers for sparks to catch on. Again the birdsnest, it took the Light My Fire many strikes producing many sparks, finally we get the cotton ball burning. Our conclusion, yes the Light My Fire does produce many sparks, however sparks were not hot enough to catch those paper products on fire. Over a few days the above tests were attempted numerous time with those papers, dried grass and the like. Each time the rod produced sparks but nothing caught on fire. Sadly, we returned both Light My Fire boxes to Amazon.

Zeer goede betrouwbare firesteel.
