Very effective and quiet for a portable air conditioner. Also very compact
I have used personal air conditioners around my house for many years, including in the bedrooms. Without exception, they have all been noisy, to the point of being loud. They have also been monsters in size.I ordered the Chilly from the specifications for noise, not worrying too much about size or the varying reviews.I have to say I am really impressed. Firstly, on unpacking, the unit is very compact. I would say around 75% smaller in all dimensions than the smallest of my other air conditioners. Also, with the vents being at the front, I can direct the airflow much better than on others where the primary direction is up (I know cold air sinks, but being able to direct the airflow to where I want is better, in my opinion).Setting it up is a breeze (geddit). Attach the pipe and put it through the window, connect to the mains and switch on. There the real good stuff happened. The unit started blowing cold air immediately and it is so, so quiet compared to what I have become used to. In the bedroom, where it is located, it is little louder than a fan, especially when in sleep mode. The remote control does all the work, options on the unit itself are minimal. This is OK, but I would have preferred to have all options on both the unit and remote control. Just a personal viewpoint, not a criticism in any way.I also received as a separate item the window kit. This clearly says it is for sliding windows and that is true. It is no good for casement (side hinge) windows. Don’t worry, just put the end of the pipe outside the window, close it as much as possible and it is OK.Finally, performance. I use this in a fairly large bedroom. It cools down quickly and keeps the room at a good low temperature. There is a little difference in noise between when the cooling is working and when it ticks over in fan mode. There is a little difference in noise between slow and fast fan speeds, but nothing intrusive. Left on auto or sleep mode and the noise is actually quite relaxing, once you have got used to it.It’s not for a large room and you have to accept there will be some noise. With that said, I think this is a fine air conditioning unit at a very fair price. It seems to be a good quality build and I am a very satisfied customer.

Loud, but cold.
It is loud, no denying that, but it does the job and kicks out icy cold air. We haven’t had any extreme heat to really put it to the test, but we’ve had a few warm nights and I’ve inatantly noticed a big difference when I’ve tested it out. Our bedroom is 3rd floor, south facing, 4x4m. No concerns about it doing a good job when I really need it to.First time I switched it on it made an awful squealing noise, but I think it just needed time to settle after I’d moved it around. I left it 24 hours before trying again and that noise had gone.I use the low fan speed in cool mode and find the noise and cold air similar to cranking up the AC in my car. It feels freezing cold to stand right in front of it.It does seem really loud at first but you do kinda get used to it and drown it out. It’s worth it for the cool breeze whne you really need it. The fan noise is constant, but the compressor which cools the air cuts in and out every so often. Again, you get used to it, but its like a super loud heavy duty fridge. A low, rumbling, loud, rhythmic humming. If you want anything quieter you’ll need a professionally installed wall AC unit with an external compressor for £1.5k and above. For £300 I really can’t complain. It’s pretty big, but looks good. It’s heavy, but moves well on wheels, even on carpet. I actually lifted ours up on top of a chest of drawers to get it closer to the window for the hose. Had to buy a 3rd party window kit but setup was all pretty straight forward.Overall I’m happy with it and looking forward to bringing those extreme temperatures down in the height of summer.

Brilliant for hot summer days
Easy to use, and has excellent utility in the hot summer. It is quite heavy so would be difficult to lug up and down the stairs regularly. It is powerful but loud and helps to cool an average sized room quickly. If you are a light sleeper, I probably would not recommend having it on when you sleep due to the noise it produces but precooling the room before bed and then using a fan when necessary would be a good option. Have used this over 2 summers on the hottest days and have had no problems at all. The remote control is handy and works flawlessly.

Quiet, powerful and extremely effective.
We bought this unit last year and used it all summer long. This year we have been using it for the last week after storing it in the loft over winter. When turn on, it does make a noise (obviously) but it is NOT that loud. Put another way, the kids still fall asleep without any drama. The sheer quantity of cooling is VERY impressive. So much so we now set ours at 19 degrees so as to not get the room too cold. Even on the hotest day it is capable of bringing the room temperture down from 38 degress to 17 degress. The unit is not small but then again it is not huge. Just remeber to allow for space at the back to route the exhaust.Things to note…..Despite it’s size, the unit is heavy. I would certainly recommend using two people to move it up or down stairs and absolutely two (maybe even nthree) three if going up a ladder intoor out of a loft. The exhaust pipe (as supplied) will act as a heater due to the hot exhaust air flowing through it. Last year we covered it in towels. This worked but not brilliantly. This year I have used some acoustic/insulted ducting which is a massive improvemnet. In conclusion, it is not cheap but it is VERY effective and quiet. We can now sleep at night without any of the grief caused by having a hot bedroom. And as its portable, you can move it to another room during the day should you so wish.
