Essential in the toolbelt for every driver.
With my MOT on the horizon and observing my tyre treads seeming a tad worn, I sought a reliable tool to avoid any test-day hiccups. This tread gauge was the answer. Right from the packaging, its quality stood out. An included battery was an immediate plus â no last-minute scrambles for one.Using it was intuitive; even with one hand, I could easily measure up to an impressive 27.9mm – though I’m puzzled about which colossal tyres might need that range! My sole critique is the slightly oversized ‘wings’ at the front. On snug wheel arches, positioning the gauge took a bit of maneuvering. But, that’s a minor trade-off for the assurance this tool brings. Highly recommended for peace of mind before your MOT!

OK for the money.
Just the job to keep in your glove box etc. Someone said they struggle to use it between the wing and the tyre? Well, just use it nearer to the road! Plenty of room on rear wheels and the fronts can be accessed readily by just turning the steeringðð¼ââï¸ðð¼ââï¸. Made of plastic, lightweight etc. 2 batteries included which is a bonus. Buttons work well enough and it’s very straightforward to understand. Handy for pre mot, service etc also to double check when your tyre guy says you need new tyres because they’re worn out. I don’t recommend you argue with your trusted garage but for ladies especially who might just get a “check” done, this could save you a small fortune. Also good for planning for winter driving too.

Helps me to keep track of the tyre depth
I bought this to check the tyre depth, which is a legal requirement here in the UK. The product works precisely as shown. The display is clear, and has the option to change between mm and inches. One of the problem is that the unit switches on even if the bar is moved a little, which is very annoying. I leave it in the car and have sometime found it to be on, which possibly happened because movement of the car disturbed the measurement bar. When there is a on/off button I do not see this feature useful at all. But overall it is definitely worth the money, and this small issue should not be a deciding factor of buying or not buying this gadget.

Good electronics, cheap packaging
Battery cover ‘clips’ on via two lugs which are tiny. Broke off the first time Iunfastened the cover. Not a good design.

Easy to use depth gauge
On my latest car Tesla advice swapping the wheels front to rear after 6250 miles because the rather rapid acceleration can wear the tyres rather quickly. So i thought when I do this I should use a gauge to measure the tread depth. I actually bought 2 versions – a manual one and this one. I can’t really say which is more accurate but this model is definitely easier to read off on the screen. It seems well made and so far I’m happy with it.
