    Overall, rather pleased
After doing quite a bit of research on portable home air conditioners with the heatwave we’re having in the UK I bought this. Overall I’m rather pleased with it. Wasn’t too difficult to get going, works well, and has satisfactory energy consumption.Size wise it’s not gigantic. On the floor it reaches about the top of a radiator found in a typical-ish British home. Not really much more floor space taken verses many of those tower fans. (If this is going to be a problem the room is likely too small for this unit anyway.) Remote shown next to a packet of crisps for scale.I’m yet to try the Wi-Fi mode and application, got somewhat put off by the accounts I have to register just to get going. (I’ve not really got a need for this function.) Also included are dust filters on the air intakes, but I’ve not had the unit running for long enough to see how much they gather. What I like:* You get cold air within a minute. The unit is very rapid to start up, but within a minute you’re hearing the coolant fluid flowing and cold air is coming out the front. Both in cool and dry modes results are rapid.* The noise isn’t as loud as I’d expected. The strangest noise is in cool and dry modes (particularly in dry mode) the fluid flowing is quite noticeable. Not a problem, and is to be expected as per the manual, but it does sound a bit like someone is having a widdle occasionally. :)* I can believe the energy efficiency claims from the manufacturer. Concerned about the cost I’ve got this unit plugged in via a power monitor to keep tabs on energy use and cost. Cool mode uses approximately 550-700 watts, dry mode 400-500 watts, and fan only mode 70-90 watts. Furthermore in cool mode the unit keeps a check on the temperature you’ve set, so when the room reaches that it shuts down the compressor using the fan only for a while. (Over the past week this unit has used 92p of electricity.)* Dry mode works well, and the drainage hose is optional. Unless you’re going to keep a non-spill bowl behind to put the drainage hose in you’re not really going to find this of much use, though the internal collection tank is large enough that you aren’t emptying it on a weekly basis. Very good in the UK where most of us are permanently in 70%+ humidity. Very welcome that dry mode therefore uses less energy as cool mode, and from what I feel, works equally well. What I think could be better:* The exhaust port could have been higher up on the unit. Given the height of windows in a typical room the pipe needs to stretch quite a bit before even getting to the lower part of a window, so you lose quite a bit of exhaust pipe length. Otherwise you’d need to have this unit on a very sturdy plinth.* The exhaust pipe and port seal doesn’t seem to be very insulating. Whilst its good to know that hot air really is getting chucked out through it, the heat coming off the pipe and the tiny gaps around the exhaust port only reduce the overall efficiency by heating up the air around it. I doubt its major, probably 95% there, but definitely room for improvement.* The remote isn’t supplied with user friendliness in mind. Because they’re universal across a range of Ecoair products some of the buttons do nothing, whilst other functions available require holding multiple buttons to access. Obviously this reduces cost for the manufacturer and makes replacements easier to come by, but it definitely has a small detraction in the end result. For example the swing and health buttons do nothing at all, the auto and heat modes aren’t available but you can select them, then the child lock and night light modes require multiple buttons pressed together.* The remote doesn’t keep in sync with the unit if you use the buttons on the unit. As shown in my second photo the unit is in cool mode and auto fan speed, but the remote claims fan only mode and low fan speed.* The window seal kit, whilst grand to have one included, is obviously third party and only for big swing windows or patio doors. With a maximum 3-side length of 4 metres this is hugely excessive for most windows in British homes. Quite a faff to get it folded and pinned to a workable length. If you have a sliding window (which appear to be popular in London) you’ll need to purchase one of those solid panels to attach the exhaust pipe onto instead. In conclusion I’m rather happy with the purchase so far. Seems like a good investment for the ever hotter summers we’re getting in the UK.[Edit: 02/Aug/21] Looks like the auto mode on the remote does work. I’m seeing the unit dynamically switch between cool/dry/fan when the remote shows this, but strangely you can only select this mode via the remote. (Not via the buttons on the unit itself.) Being in the UK though the auto mode spends most of its time on dry.[Edit: 14/Aug/22] Now that I’ve had this unit for over a year I thought good to come back with some experience notes.* The exhaust hose would have been better if it were aluminium or similar metal based. I’m finding that the exhaust hose gets rather hot, which in turn heats up the air around it, meaning the unit to need to do more of the heavy cooling work for longer periods — thus costing more to run. I’m looking into an insulating cover or similar to address that what with energy prices being a gigantic rip-off in the UK right now it’ll be worthwhile to save some kWhs.* The dust filter on the side and back typically gathers enough dust to need a vacuum clean every fortnight. During really hot summer weeks I’d say weekly as you’ll be using the unit for more hours of the day. (Even if in the fan only mode.) They really do trap quite a lot of dust so for best airflow keep it clean. (Literally takes a minute to do that.)* The internal water tank seems to NEVER fill up. The manual states that the screen shows a specific H code when it’s full but I’m yet to see it, even in humid UK where I’m about 5 miles from the sea. For science I decided to empty it anyway to which approximately half a pint flowed out. Not a complaint as I’d expected needing to empty this maybe monthly with the amount of time it goes into dry mode. (Perhaps not now with a drought in progress.)Still very pleased with the purchase.

    Pretty great overall.
Update from June 12 2023, Well it’s starting to get really hot here again, Using it alot now. Even with high energy prices the cost to run it is still very acceptable, around 15P per hour on low fan AC mode (paying £0.32 per KWH). Been keeping me ice cold during this horrible heat, Ran now for over a year with zero issues or downsides, completely recommended. Seriously if you are hot and want relief these things are cheap for 10+ yrs of heat relief.Update from the August 2022 heat wave: This unit has made the horrendus heatwave we’ve had trivial, Left on for 12 hours or so a day & off during the night, costing approx £2-3 a day for this extreme usage, Pretty much kept the room at a solid 16C the entire time even in 33c+ outdoor temps. 100% worth the costs and cannot understate how amazing a unit like this is for these horrible heatwaves which are only going to get worse, Think of it as an investment. But again the price of this unit has gone up, I paid £285 so would suggest finding another one for the current £330 asking price, go for an A+ energy rated one and the extra cost will be earned back in MUCH better energy costs. So mine arrived with damage, slight dent to the side and rear internal fins were slightly bent. Nothing broken and worked fine, purely cosmetic. I was given a partial refund of £30 for this, which is fine in my opinion. What I like:Coldness: Yea it’s freezing, absolutely ice cold. Seriously feels amazing.Multi-uses: comes with several! Normal very strong fan, air conditioning and dehumidifier, so great for this price.Energy use: exceptional. In ac mode I go from 470w – 600w, for air conditioners this is superb! And very cheap to run, £20 or so a month with quite alot of use. 70w on fan use and around 450w on dehumidifier. What I don’t like:Sound: it’s loud. If you’ve not had a ac unit before and are expecting a louder fan basically? No… This is quite loud and will need to be set up accordingly, not a deal breaker but dont expect fan levels of loudness.Included window adaptor: awful. Spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out, seems made for a sliding door, doesn’t fit. I made my own out of plastic sheet and magnetic adhesive strips. Also made a tempory one out of cardboard for free which was better..Vent direction: so bad! You can have the air come out upwards and straightforward. No sideways or downward options, I have mine mounted on an elevated surface and this caused so many issues I 3d printed a downward facing vent. Seriously such a oversight and really takes away from it.Overall very pleased and very happy but they keep raising the price, I brought this for £285, don’t pay over £330 As there are better ac units. Just got for the best energy efficency and bite the bullet of the extra cost up front, saves a hell of alot of money in the long run.

  3. Dawn

    Excellent
This was a great purchase. Use in my large living room which has large glass wall on south facing sun. Switch this on and it cools the temperature straight away. I put the hose out the window then drop the blinds to top of the hose. This leaves a panel of glass exposed, nevertheless it still works well and has been a absolute saver in hot days

  4. Mobro

    Excellent Air Conditioning Unit
Bought this for my apartment that is suffering from serious overheating during these freak periods of extreme heat. It’s been a life saver literally. I used it in my bedroom and had to run it 24/7 4days straight on cool air mode and it did the job.The noise level is not an issue for me as I am severely deaf so cannot hear it without hearing aids.I didn’t use sleep mode just medium and high settings. It took a lot of humidity out of the air and quickly filled up a small 4litre container with the drain hose attached to the outlet at the backAll in all this machine saved me from getting severe heat stroke and I am very happy with this purchase

  5. Night Awk
