Nyquist Colt Tops CTHS Premier Yearling Sale


A Nyquist   colt sold for CA$250,000 (US$185,376, CA$1=US$0.75) to top the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s (Ontario Division) Premier Yearling Sale Aug. 28 at Woodbine.

Clay Scherer, agent, signed the ticket for the sale topper, the third foal out of the winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Mrs. Hudson. Consigned as Hip 88, the colt is a half to 2023 Catch a Glimpse Stakes winner Airosa , a 3-year-old filly by Nyquist’s sire, Uncle Mo  .

The sale topper was bred by David Anderson of Anderson Farms and consigned by Bernard and Karen McCormack of Cara Bloodstock.

The CTHS reported 143 hips sold for total sales of CA$3,727,700 (US$2,764,108). Average price increased 11% from 2023 to CA$26,297 (US$19,499). Median increased 27% year-over-year to CA$19,000 (US$14,089).

Adena Springs’ Silent Name   led all Ontario sires with a total of CA$371,000 in sales. Cara Bloodstock was leading consignor by gross with 12 sold for CA$594,500.

Viewership for the online broadcast soared to new heights, accompanied by a record-setting volume of sales through online bidding, according to the CTHS.

“On behalf of the CTHS, we thank and commend our Ontario breeders for bringing forward an exemplary group of Ontario-sired and bred horses.” said Anderson, president of the CTHS board of directors. “Our sale continues to produce champions and offers a great return on investment for buyers.

“The CTHS remains committed to promoting and supporting the Canadian Thoroughbred industry and looks forward to building on this success in future sales. Plans are already underway for next year’s event, which promises to be even bigger and better.”
