The Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association continues an expanded format during its 2024 Fall Mixed Sale, which will feature a live yearling sale, a paddock sale, and a mixed digital sale.
The live yearling sale will be held Oct. 12 at the Horseshoe Indianapolis receiving barn at 1 p.m. ET. This sale will feature 87 Indiana-bred and Indiana-sired yearlings. The sale will offer online bidding and a live webcast available on www.HorseAuctionsUsa.com.
Catalogs will be available in print and can be requested by contacting Austin Nicks at nicksfarm@yahoo.com. The catalog will be available on the Equineline Catalog Sales Reader app in addition to ITOBA’s website at https://www.itoba.com/fall-sale.
The paddock sale, which will offer horses of racing age currently stabled at Horseshoe Indianapolis, also takes place Oct.12 immediately following the conclusion of the live yearling sale.
The mixed digital sale will be held Nov. 14-19 on HorseAuctionsUSA.com. This sale will feature weanlings, broodmares, horses of racing age, and buy-backs from the live yearling sale. ITOBA is accepting registrations for the mixed digital sale until Nov. 1.
Both the paddock sale and mixed digital sale will have a $300 entry fee, with no commission and no RNA fee.
The yearlings consigned to the live auction represent the state’s leading sires such as Charming Kitten , Forever d’Oro , Harry’s Holiday , Holiday Promise , Prayer for Relief , Qurbaan , Sahara Sky , Santiva , and Unbridled Express . Freshman sires Calculator , Isotherm , and Speightsong also have yearlings cataloged. Some of the Indiana-bred yearlings are by Kentucky sires, including Code Of Honor , Coal Front , Enticed , Jimmy Creed , Maximus Mischief , Mineshaft , and others.
“I think the Hoosier breeders have plenty to offer this year with horses that will be competitive not just in Indiana, but at any track,” said auctioneer Nicks. “Our paddock sale and mixed digital sale offer a great outlet to sell horses without the hassle of privately selling, and with the horseauctionsusa.com app, bidding and viewing of all three of our auctions are in the palm of your hand.”
Last year’s auctions collectively produced nearly $450,000 in gross sales. The top-selling yearling, Catch a Nite Train, sold for $32,500 to Roger Spiess out of Oaks Ridge Farm’s consignment. The now-gelded son of Unbridled Express became a winner June 5 and placed in his racing debut in May. Catch a Nite Train, racing for Spiess and trainer Randy Klopp has already earned $26,700.
