CD Projekt ‘Definitely’ Planning More Cyberpunk 2077 Animation Projects

CD Projekt has renewed hopes for Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2 after saying it is “definitely” planning more animation projects set with the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski was asked during CD Projekt’s latest earnings call if it was planning more projects in the pop culture realm and if the beloved Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, from CD Projekt, Studio Trigger, and Netflix, is getting a second season.

Nowakowski and his colleagues have been fairly insistent in the past that Cyberpunk Edgerunners would not continue after its first season, and while he by no means confirmed more here, he did at least say fans should expect more animation projects in the same vein.

“We are definitely planning to do more in terms of animation with Cyberpunk so I hope that’s enough as an answer,” Nowakowski said. “So expect to see more for sure, but that’s as far as I can go right now.”

Cyberpunk Edgerunners premiered in September 2022 to high praise from fans and critics. even sparking in a resurgence in Cyberpunk 2077 that saw upwards of one million players jumping in each day. Fans also became enthralled in its story, and added elements like Cyberpsychosis to the game via mods.

CD Projekt’s Japanese community manager Satoru Honma said in October 2022 that there are no plans to continue the show, saying Edgerunners was intended to be a standalone work. The Cyberpunk franchise is expanding elsewhere, of course, into books, comics, and even a mysterious live action project, not to mention a full sequel currently in early development.
