Evcimen Stud in Turkey announced Nov. 10 the death of stallion Toccet . The cause of death is unknown. Toccet was 24.
The son of Awesome Again retired from racing following the 2004 season. He had a 7-3-2 mark from 23 starts and $931,387 in earnings.
Among his career highlights were running in the 2002 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T).
Toccet had a pair of grade 1 wins on his resume in his rookie season: the 2002 Champagne Stakes (G1) in his first shot in graded company and the Hollywood Futurity (G1).
A Dan Borislow homebred, Toccet was bred in Kentucky and was trained by Hall of Famer Bobby Frankel.
Initially standing at Castleton Lyons near Lexington with his first crop hitting the track in 2008, he headed to Dana Point Farm near Lenhartsville, Pa., in 2010. Toccet then moved to Mighty Acres near Pryor, Okla., in 2012. He had been in Turkey since 2015 when he was sold to Turkish breeder Alp Evcimen.
Toccet sired graded stakes winners Ventana; Winning Machine and Toccetive , who won in Canada; Be Welcome and Prime Querubin who were grade 1 winners in Peru. In terms of earnings, Red Razzo was his top earner at $725,406 followed by Az Ridge ($498,049), Winning Machine ($492,075), and Awesome Rhythm ($481,621). He also sired the 2020 champion miler in Turkey, Kuzey Yagmuru.
